Speaker's biographies:
Sandra Burton has a B.S.A. (Honors, Agriculture) from Univ. of Saskatchewan and M.Sc. (Soil Science) from Univ. of British Columbia. In the early 1980’s Sandra worked on the Land Resource Mapping Project (LRMP) across Nepal and returned there for her thesis study. From 1987 to 2022, Sandra has worked for a wide variety of non profit agriculture groups. Her work included facilitating the adoption of direct seeding practices, co lead with Dr. Bill McGill to organize UNBC accredited soils, forages and water courses, and organizing hands-on interactive soil landscape field courses for environmental companies and professional organizations. Richard Kabzems has a B.S.A. (Honors, Plant Ecology) from Univ. of Saskatchewan and M.Sc. (Forest Ecology) from Univ. of British Columbia. Richard has volunteer work experience from Nepal in his early career phase. From 1990 to 2022, Richard was a research Silviculturist with the Province of British Columbia, working in northern boreal forests. His work included mixedwood succession and response to disturbance, soil productivity and alternative silviculture systems. Richard’s life and work constantly bring home the awareness that we live in a complex, interconnected environment.
